I started working at Raffingers on the 26th July 2019.
What or who inspires you to get out of bed every morning?
Getting out of bed early every morning is becoming less of a struggle than it was previously. This is because I know when I come into work, I will be learning something new every day and there will be a new challenge or problem to tackle.
I decided to undertake a placement year outside of the engineering sector to learn and develop as many skills as possible and gain exposure to a different sector.
What are you studying at university, and why?
I study Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University. I chose my degree because my overall goal is to do something to improve the way the world works whilst making people’s lives easier in some way. This goal paired with my passion for maths and physics lead to me choosing to study engineering.
Where’s the most interesting place you have travelled to?
After my GCSE’s, I travelled to Iceland with my school for five days. This trip was extremely busy, with every hour planned - from climbing a volcano for 5 hours to visiting the geysers. It was jam-packed.
When visiting Iceland, everyone normally looks forward to the Blue Lagoon so that they can sit in 36-degree water whilst putting the natural clay masks on their faces. Although that was incredible, the best part of the entire trip was being able to do the glacier walk. When walking on the glacier, we were told to push our feet into the ice using the ice crampons provided by the tour company and follow the group leader’s footsteps whilst we walked in single-file. As we made our way up the glacier, I remember looking out at the incredible views, it almost felt like a dream, that somewhere like this couldn’t be real. The tour guide then took us to the peak of the glacier where there was fresh running water, and we had to use an axe to balance ourselves to try the water.
Although Iceland was exceptionally cold, the glacier walk has left me wanting more so I have added ice climbing to my bucket list!
Who would you invite to a dinner party?
- Beyoncé
- Pablo Escobar
- Chrissy Teigan
- Michelle Obama
- Boris Johnson
- Kim Kardashian
Since I have been at Raffingers, I have predominantly been working on the Client Experience Project. This has involved a lot of research into things like survey companies and automation software. I have also been trained on the CRM system and am able to create and convert leads and work with the survey and reporting tools.
Tell us one thing you have learned so far?
I have learned how to get up early every day, to a point that even when I want to wake up at midday I can’t.
What are your aims for the future?
My short-term aim whilst working at Raffingers is to learn as much as possible about a variety of things and gain valuable experience. In the next few years, I would like to graduate with a good degree and use the skills I have acquired here to look into a future in technology.
