New Kid On The Block - Meet Our New Audit and Accounts Semi Senior
There's a new kid on the block here at Raffingers. Meet Shahporan, our new Audit and Accounts Semi Senior! To celebrate this new arrival into the Raffingers team, we thought we'd give our readers an insight into our new team member so that you can learn more about him and discover his plans for the future of Raffingers.
1. What was your job role before joining us?
Prior to joining Raffingers, I worked at a city firm located in Mayfair, as an Audit and Accounts Semi Senior.
2. Talk us through your prior experience?
My career started working in an accountancy practice in Canary Wharf called Abacus Partners Ldn LLP. I was there during my last semester at university. Following a few years with that firm, I then joined a central London firm - Higgins Fairbairn & Co. In my previous role at Higgins Fairbairn & Co, I had been involved in accounts preparation for sole, limited, charity etc. Personal tax, CT600, preparation and submission of VAT returns.
3. What interested you about this role?
I have always wanted to work for a leading accountancy firm. Almost every accountant (at some point in their career) wants to work for a big4. However, after careful consideration, I chose to join Raffingers, mainly because a small to medium-sized firm would give me much better experience compared to a big4 firm.
4. What are you looking forward to doing most in the coming year/s?
I am looking forward to becoming ACCA qualified.
5. Do you have any hobbies outside of work? If so, what are they?
I enjoy travelling and I have a keen interest in sport - I play football almost every Saturday morning.
6. What was your route like into accounts and audit?
I graduated in Applied Accounting from Anglia Ruskin University and then joined BPP university for ACCA while working for a firm in Canary Wharf as a trainee.
7. A fun fact about yourself?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a pilot which led me to later earn my driving license which I passed the first time.
8. Who inspires you?
My prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)
9. What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I am not a regular book reader. However, Nondito Noroke by Bangladeshi author Humayun Ahmed.
10. What’s something you’re proud of?
It was a big jump for me, but I booked a one-way ticket from Dhaka to London just after my A levels to study at university.
11. What’s your idea of a perfect work day?
A perfect work day would be completing the hardest work early, making the rest of the day easier to handle, and gradually completing the other daily tasks and preparing for the next day.
12. If you could have dinner with 3 celebs dead or alive, who would they be?
- Luca Pacioli
- Jacques Kallis
- Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
13. If you were an animal, what one would you be and why?
I am happy and simply grateful for being human!
14. What do you hope to bring to the company?
Over the course of my accountancy career, I have understood the processes behind helping clients achieve their business goals through a positive attitude, but I hope to build solid and successful relationships both internally and externally in the company.
15. How do you see the world of accounts and audits changing?
Being good at maths will no longer make us a good accountant or auditor. People will expect an ability to look beyond the numbers to provide strategic advisory services along with a growth mindset with advanced soft skills.
